And coloring books are really a big part of the growing up of children. In spite of the rise in the popularity of more popular forms of entertainment such as those involving computers and gaming platforms, the coloring book retains its appeal especially for children around the age of seven and below. It’s inexpensive, practical, is usually a wonderful learning experience for children, and unlike gaming consoles, usually completely OK if it’s torn to shreds.
Just how important are colors when it comes to the life of a child? An article by the Early Childhood Center–Indiana Institute on Disability and Community titled, How to help children recognize color, reads, ”When children recognize colors they are noticing, matching, sorting, and labeling the characteristics of the world around them.” The article goes on to say, ”Recognizing colors is a skill that is often difficult for children because it is necessary to know the color words, as well as to identify the abstract characteristic of color.” Colorful books are great for kids because not only are they one of many tools available at our fingertips to help children with the skill of color identification, but colorful drawings and pictures tend to capture their attention.
Looking for a way to keep your child occupied while teaching them the Word of God at the same time? Christian coloring pages for kids are a great tool you can use to do just that. Then again, all those beautiful henna patterns, mandalas or even Ryan Gosling (oh, yes, there is such a book) pop up all of a sudden and I feel my inner color-Goddess rejoice.
2. The complexity. Determine your child’s level when it comes to coloring. Some color books provide large coloring spaces making it easier for children to color the page, stay in the lines, etc. As the child gets older, their skill level for coloring increases as well, and the difficulty of the book may as well. Some coloring books come with written instructions, and other games, such as a dot to dot, or a maze. If you want to keep your child happy, and still challenge them, choose coloring or activity books in their range or level, and do not frustrate them with books that have too small of pictures, or too many spaces to color, or written instructions.
