When kids hear the word worksheet, they usually cringe. This is because they think of the hard work they receive at school. Even if your child is among the crowd who would rather play video games or even clean his room rather than do worksheets at home, there are a variety of ways you can encourage learning at home. There are many fun worksheets for kids available online that are an extension of the video games that are available, furthering the skills kids learn in school and online.
For the kids who are getting a little behind in school simply because they don’t have a good grasp of the basic concepts, worksheets are a great choice. If you talk to your child about obtaining a tutor because it will make it easier for him to learn and less stressful on you as a parent, he might cringe. Tutoring seems like an extension of school, which most kids will not care for. In place of tutoring, you can offer your child the opportunity to complete fun worksheets for kids at home to see if the skills improve.
Johanna Basford’s, ”Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book” seems to have started the adult coloring book rage in 2011. This book may be a collector’s item someday – like an original hula hoop.
Just how important are colors when it comes to the life of a child? An article by the Early Childhood Center–Indiana Institute on Disability and Community titled, How to help children recognize color, reads, ”When children recognize colors they are noticing, matching, sorting, and labeling the characteristics of the world around them.” The article goes on to say, ”Recognizing colors is a skill that is often difficult for children because it is necessary to know the color words, as well as to identify the abstract characteristic of color.” Colorful books are great for kids because not only are they one of many tools available at our fingertips to help children with the skill of color identification, but colorful drawings and pictures tend to capture their attention.
For many of us, when we think of coloring, we connect to the innocence of childhood and a time when we weren’t burdened by responsibility and expectation. Picking up a crayon once again can help us reconnect to a sense of simplicity we have temporarily lost.
Besides, coloring can trigger the imagination and help your kids be inspired to come up with something new and learn to think out of the box in a natural way. And we know that creativity is valued highly in every field across the globe.
With online printable coloring pages you never have to keep volumes of coloring books around. Most children change what they would like to color often. They bounce around from one theme or one set of characters to the next. Therefore they may abandon that coloring book with princesses or cars days after you buy it. Printing out the pages though allows them to always get what they want.
